egg nog, holiday -

Growing up, the closest my family ever came to making Eggnog was enjoying my Aunt Judy’s boiled custard recipe with Jack Daniels. She brought this delicious tradition with her from Tennessee to Indiana. When Aunt Judy wasn’t around, we’d open a carton of Peep’s brand and mix it with bourbon. A couple of years ago, I decided to make Eggnog from scratch. My taste buds were opened to a new passion. So long Aunt Judy and store-bought eggnog. While I love both, the real thing captured my heart. A new Christmas tradition was born.  There’s no reason to be...

appetizers, bread -

cheese brulee, dessert -

Cheese is one of my favorite foods. My mom tells me that she craved cheese while I was in the womb. I could eat my weight in cheese (that's a lot of cheese). Actually, I think I may be part cheese. At the very least, I would say I am a Cheeseatarian. The pièce de résistance is the Humboldt Fog Brûlée: a gooey goat’s milk cheese topped with a freshly torched layer of caramelized sugar. What could be better? A sugar free Cheese Brûlée is the answer to that question. Surprisingly, creating a tasty and fabulous appetizer was easy--once I discovered...

Ole! I love Tuesdays because of tacos. There are many reasons, but tacos top the list. For many years, Sam and I have indulged in variations of Taco Tuesday at our home. Sometimes, we have street tacos made with bulgogi or duck. Other times, traditional tacos made with pork al pastor or chicken tinga are on the menu. I must admit, though, that tacos Americano with cheddar and ground beef are one of my favorite comfort foods. Before we ate keto, we often had an assortment of corn and flour tortillas (or chips for freeform ones). Now, I...
